Creating a Mood Board
One of my most favorite things I've done recently is make mood boards for every fragrance in our core and seasonal collections. It was no easy feat and took a while to sift through the scent notes, fragrance profile and overall vibe of each scent. I thought it would be fun to share how I create the mood board by going through one of our newer scents: velvet hearth!
1. Naming the fragrance
I rarely keep a fragrance name from my supplier. Renaming our scents helps keep our fragrance names on brand and unique from other fragrance makers, so the first step is always naming the scent. This helps with the overall mood board creation down the road too.
Naming velvet hearth was tricky at first, I had a few other names that were almost winners. But, once I had the thought of "velvet" I was sold on that being part of the scent name. This fragrance gives off such a luxurious and creamy vibe so I knew it was the perfect name to include with this scent. Adding in hearth came from the idea that it felt like being by a cozy fireplace, which lead me to the word "hearth".
2. Creating the vibe
The first thing I do when creating a mood board is think about the overall vibe of the fragrance. Is it a warm, fresh, floral, citrus scent? What do I feel when I smell the fragrance; energized, cozy, calm, peaceful? From there I will come up with a few words to use to search for images that match the vibe.
For velvet hearth I used words like
• cozy fireplace
• moody fall aesthetic
• warm outdoorsy fall
• falling leaves
• cashmere fall
Usually once I start with one "keyword" I'll find more images that fit the vibe. I then create a board with images that match the initial vibe check.

3. Finalizing the mood board
Once I have enough images to work with (between 9-12), I will narrow it down to the best ones for our mood board. This usually involves smelling the fragrance multiple times and putting myself in the world of that scent. Once I have the images that most represent the scent I'll compile them in our mood board template

And there you have it! This is the process I use for each fragrance we create a mood board for. Some fragrances are easier than others and others are more complex and take some time to find the keywords that really represent the fragrance. I know how tricky it is buying fragrance online, so my hope is these mood boards help provide a better feel for the fragrance so that you find one you truly enjoy :)
