Perfume oils vs. Perfume Mists: What's the difference?

At markets the number one question I get is "what's the difference" when it comes to our perfume oil rollers and our perfume bottles and mists. To be honest, it's a bit of a tricky question to answer. So let's break it down!

Perfume Oils:

Our perfume oils are made with four ingredients.
• apricot kernel oil
• sweet almond oil
• sunflower oil
• paraben + phthalate free fragrance oil
The fragrance to base ratio is lower than our perfume bottles, yet high enough to still be a powerhouse of fragrance. Roller bottles are applied directly to your pulse points: wrists, neck, inner elbow and even sometimes behind your knees.

Perfume bottles + mists

Our perfume, also called eau de parfum or EDP, is made with a more complex base. The base includes alcohol 39C, DEP, benzyl salicylate and our paraben + phthalate free fragrance oils. The fragrance to base ratio is much higher with our EDP's. Perfumes can be misted on your wrists, neck, clothes and basically anywhere you'd like on your skin.

So which one's better?
Okay, so now that we know the difference between the two, let's break it down. Typically, oils tend to last on your skin longer as they get absorbed more easily due to the oils we use. However they also tend to wear off much more quickly than our EDP's due to a multitude of factors. If you're washing your hands a lot, the fragrance on your wrists could be rinsed off more quickly. If you're working out, active or sweating throughout the day the fragrance is more likely to wear off more quickly as well. On the other hand, our EDP's are usually sprayed over a larger portion of your body and often end up on your clothes as well. EDP's have alcohol and can evaporate more quickly when sprayed, which is another reason why they work best on moisturized skin.

So, which one lasts longer? The answer I like to give is: it's really personal preference. Our oils, while having a lower fragrance to base ratio, tend to last longer on some individuals while others swear by EDP's. I'm personally in the camp of "whatever I'm feeling in the moment". I have both sprays and oils in my personal collection, but I tend to reach for the EDP more.

There's no size fits all when it comes to perfume wearing. Everyone has different pheromones which react to fragrance differently as well. What I like to tell customers is to go with what they've had work in the past. If you're a roller bottle wearer and you're happy with your fragrances, than keep doing what's working! If you find EDP's last longer on you, then keep spritzing your fav scents!

If you're new to perfume and looking for some direction, I'd say to try both. Since everyone's skin and body chemistry is different your body may do better with an oil vs an EDP or vice versa. The only way to know which works better for you is to give them a try!

Tips + Tricks
• Create your own personal fragrance by layering our roller bottle oils. Apply the first fragrance and let it dry before applying the second fragrance. Repeat as many times as needed for as many layers as you'd like. I'd recommend sticking between two and three fragrances for layering
• Moisturize! I know I mentioned this above, but it truly makes a difference in your fragrance longevity. If you're not someone that typically wears moisturizer daily, I would start with moisturizing your arms and neck as those are the most likely places I would put fragrance on. Looking for a great moisturizer? All of our fragrances are available in our shea butter + aloe lotion as well!
• If EDP is your choice of fragrance, grab a travel perfume mist for long days at the office and on the go.
• Still not sure which fragrance you'll like? Grab our perfume discovery set! (currently only available in EDP's)

The golden rule
One of the number one rules I like to say is a when applying fragrance: make sure your skin is hydrated! If you apply your oil or EDP on dry skin it's likely to have a shorter lifespan. When your skin is hydrated the fragrance has something to absorb into.
